Heat pump dryers use about 55% less electricity than resistance dryers for the same drying. They also don’t need an external vent — useful in apartments or interior rooms.

Which dryer makes sense in New Jersey?

Per-load energy comes from ENERGY STAR specifications — gas at ~22,000 BTU, electric resistance at ~3.3 kWh, heat pump at ~1.5 kWh. Multiply by New Jersey’s gas price ($14.21/Mcf, EIA March 2026) or electricity rate (23.53¢/kWh, EIA April 2026).
